Learn and develop engineering skills essential for employment in the engineering manufacturing sector.

If you are interested in a career in engineering and working with Combilift then the OEM in Engineering Traineeship should be your number one choice. 

The course comprises of 26 weeks of theoretical learning in Monaghan Institute and 12 weeks practical work experience at Combilift learning subjects including machining, fitting, control systems, auto electrics, CAD and hydraulics. Graduates will earn a QQI Level 5 Engineering Certificate from City & Guilds.

Students taking part are entitled to continue any Department of Social Protection payments, travel or accommodation allowance, a meal allowance and access to the CETS Childcare scheme. Trainees not in receipt of any State grants or payments may be eligible for a €100 bursary from Combilift.

A new and exciting way to study engineering while earning a salary.

The OEM Apprenticeship was developed in 2019 to address the demand for engineers available in the machine manufacturing industry, by a consortium of industry leaders of which Combilift is a member.

During the apprenticeship you would be employed by Combilift, earning a salary and learning a range of engineering skills that are highly valued by the manufacturing industry while living in the local community.

The OEM apprenticeship is level 6  QQI level 6 Advanced Certificate in Original Equipment Manufacturing, with a focus on the engineering and manufacturing were you would learn a range of skills such as engineering drawing electrical and electronic technology OEM practices, mechatronics, analytical & problem solving and Industrial robotics.


Network Engineer

Job Summary:

As the Network Engineer, you are responsible for Combilift’s overall network and security systems which includes installation, troubleshooting and configuration of LANs, WANs, Internet and intranet systems, and Network segments. This role will also have a strong focus on Cybersecurity.

The desired candidate should have more than 5 years of IT work experience with at least 3 years’ experience in IT security and networking, including knowledge of GDPR, technical audits, analysis and design.



  • Network design, configuration and installation of hardware and software as well as monitoring, evaluating and modifying the performance of the
  • Analyse, isolate and reporting of issues.
  • Determine network and system requirements
  • Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security
  • Ensure network connectivity throughout the company’s LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations
  • Maintain network services / systems such as VPN gateways, IDS/IPS systems
  • Administration of Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Proxys, patching and software
  • Design, maintain and implement a wide range of security
  • Plan and anticipate against any threats that could
  • Provide guidance on project and technical consulting in the security

  • Knowledge and experience with application vulnerabilities and OWASP
  • Knowledge of networking technologies such as Firewalls, load balancing, VPN, routing and switching
  • Familiarity and a working knowledge of general security administration processes and frameworks, metrics collection and reporting

SQL Developer

Combilift is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our IT team and work in a fast-paced, dynamic, high-tech manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate should be a diligent, hardworking individual who is able to learn new systems and processes rapidly, can work on their own initiative and is capable of delivering outstanding work at all times.


The duties of the role will be to;

  • Develop SQL queries and procedures, create custom reports, and modify ERP user forms to enhance organizational productivity.
  • Design databases and ensure their stability, reliability and performance.
  • Modify and create SQL-based objects, queries, reports, and application interfaces.
  • Implement solutions and monitor performance of the ERP software.
  • Provide technical support for the database environment including: installation, administration, maintenance of SQL Server instances, oversee the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies
  • Monitor, maintain database systems and troubleshoot problems that may arise
  • Maintain data integrity and security.
  • Develop strategies and implement solutions for managing/testing backup and recovery, restoration and replication.
  • Proactive housekeeping/archiving and shrinking of databases.
  • Manage production and Test/Dev database environments.
  • Create detailed documentation including diagrams of database infrastructure.
  • Learn relevant business processes and understand the data flow, criticality and dependencies.
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Develop applications which will replace legacy processes and improve the organisations efficiency.


Key Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in administering Microsoft SQL Server databases (SQL 2008, 2012, 2016).
  • 2 + years of SQL and Access application development.
  • Experience with SQL Server Clustering including mirroring, log shipping, failover cluster and various replication technologies.
  • Experience developing, updating, and maintaining SQL queries for database data extraction.
  • Ability to communicate methodology and findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.


Preferred/Non-Essential Requirements:

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS), Analysis Services (SSAS) and analytical tools (Power BI).
  • Prior experience administering Infor Syteline ERP software is a bonus but other ERP experience would also be of benefit.
  • 1-2 years of Visual Studio experience.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Welding Team and work in a fast-paced, high-tech manufacturing environment.  This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy Welding Department. The duties of the role will include but are not limited to the following;


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Welding & Fabrication of heavy steel.
  • Having the ability to carry out all work aspects in accordance with Quality and Health & Safety standards.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Meeting production targets.
  • Ensuring highest quality work.
  • Previous experience with jigs and cutting equipment.
  • Visually inspecting all welds and when they have been completed, having the ability to recognise and resolve all faults.
  • Operating overhead cranes and a forklift truck.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering weldment drawings.
  • Provide assistance on any projects which you are asked to be part of.


  Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous Welding experience is essential.
  • Experience using 400amp + C02 welders MIG- MAG and 10mm and above plate size.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy with detail and excellent Quality of work.
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings.
  • Highly motivated with strong communication skills.
  • Working to tight deadlines and the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good time management skills.
