Combilift wins Asia Matters award for growth in Asian Markets

Material handling specialist manufacturer Combilift has yet another award to add to its trophy cabinet – this time for its recent expansion and activities in the Asian market which were recognised at the inaugural Asia Matters Business Awards. Asia Matters focusses on building dynamic business links and understanding between Asia and Ireland to drive economic growth.

Since Combilift was established 20 years ago it has collected numerous accolades for its achievements in product design and innovation, its exporting expertise and overall company management. MD Martin McVicar and technical Director Robert Moffett accepted the award on behalf of the company at a ceremony on 19th November at the Intercontinental Hotel, Ballsbridge.

From its inception, Combilift aimed to target the export market with its niche market offering, handling long products that were not served by other manufacturers. Having since established a presence in 85 countries, the company’s portfolio now encompasses a wide range of handling solutions that can handle loads from 1 tonne up to 100t and this growing variation has enabled Combilift to gain footholds in ever more markets.

“A key strategy for us is to follow existing customers when they set up in new markets and this has also proved to be very successful in Asia over the past few years,” said McVicar. “Our first product sold in China for example was to JLG-Oshkosh in Tianjin, originally an American Combilift customer in Pennsylvania. Our dealer partnership with Vita-Wheel, which is located in Hong Kong and China and has experience in selling Western products and this has opened up doors to many clients in the region.”

In 2017 Combilift achieved the quality and safety standard Type Test Certification for the Chinese market which facilitates expansion in the country. It also supplies three of the main aircraft users in China; Shaanxi Aircraft Industry, Xi’an Aircraft Industry and Shenyang Aircraft Industry

The Combi-SC Straddle Carriers and the Aisle Master articulated trucks were launched in Singapore last year. Combilift products are used in many of the ‘Do Home’ outlets in Thailand – one of the largest Hardware, DIY & Home Stores in South East Asia.

“We have found that clients in this part of the world are willing to invest in innovative products and we plan to exploit the vast market potential across Asia in the coming years,” said McVicar. “Winning this award will undoubtedly help us achieve this aim and we would like to congratulate Asia Matters for establishing this initiative to spotlight Irish Asian cooperation.”
